The airlines require all passengers 18 years of age and older to present positive identification for travel. Acceptable forms of positive identification include either:
•One form of photo ID issued by a federal, state, or local government agency, or
•Two forms of non-photo identification, one of which must be issued by a federal, state, or local government agency.
So long as your minor children are traveling with you, they will not require identification. Please consult with your airline regarding their specific rules for unaccompanied minors.
There are cab companies servicing the airport which go directly to the campus. They can be located outside door "D" in the terminal building. The cost varies between the cab companies (the average is about $12 per person). Also, the Transpo City Bus provides a shuttle to the stadium and leaves the area by the South Shore Station at the airport at 11:20 a.m. and 1:20 p.m. The cost is $4.00 each way. The passenger must have $4.00 in exact change since the driver does not have any change.
There are also Rental Cars available.
Most airlines use computer programs to automatically rebook passengers from cancelled flights, but there may be other options available. For more information please read this article by Michelle Higgins of the New York Times dated 9/11/06.

The Airport terminal opens at 4:00 am.
We ask that patrons arrive at the terminal 90 minutes before departure and, after checking in at the ticket counter, proceed to the security checkpoint ASAP.
The local airlines are responsible for updating the flight information monitors in the terminal. This same information is fed to our website.
Because of the heavy workload experienced during some ground handling operations, it is possible that flight information on our monitors may not be updated as frequently as we would like. We are working on ways to improve this situation.
There are other sources of obtaining flight
information in addition to the real time data on our site. Here are some sites:

Effective August 10, 2006 and until further notice, the TSA has changed its procedures. Please check with TSA for specific information.
There are several methods to obtain information on flights. You can call airlines directly on their 800 #s or access their websites. You may also work through a travel agent. Travel agents usually charge a nominal fee but they do the research for you. You can also use a web site such as: yahootravel priceline or expedia.
Listed below is some additional information including links to the websites and phone numbers for the airlines which operate from our airport as well as to the on-airport travel agency in South Bend.

As the result of a change in 2006 by the Department of Transportation, South Bend will now be on Eastern time (Michigan and New York time) year round.
Continental Airlines provided non-stop service from South Bend to Newark during the 2005 Notre Dame Football season. Unfortunately, Continental did not run the non-stop Newark service during the 2006 football season. We are still hopeful that they will reinstitute the service at some future date since the flights in 2005 were well received.
We have contacted American, Delta and Continental regarding the provision of year round service to the New York area. Our Executive Director spends a significant amount of time on air service development and in that light has visited the home offices for these carriers in an attempt to convince them of the value of this service. Our air service consultant has also prepared reports to justify this service.
It would be helpful to us if our interested patrons contacted the airlines to encourage them to provide additional non-stop travel options from South Bend. Here is a link to the airlines currently servicing South Bend as a well as a link to American (which does not presently service South Bend).

The airline industry has its own terminology which can be confusing for the average traveler. One of the main examples is the different terms "direct" and "non-stop" flights. They can be the same thing, but often they are not.
A direct flight implies that it flies from A to B without stopping - but this isn't always the case. In fact the plane may stop and pick up passengers or you may need to change planes (and even terminals) at a mid way point. The flight does retain the one flight number and so it is considered a "direct flight" and not a "connecting flight". A "non-stop flight" does just that, it doesn't stop and is the quickest way to get to your destination.
