MARCUS APPOINTED TO AIRPORT AUTHORITY BOARD

The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners has appointed local businessman Abraham Marcus to a four-year term on the Board of Directors of the St. Joseph County Airport Authority. He succeeds James Hughes who retired December 31st after more than 26 years on the Board.

Mr. Marcus is a well-known South Bend business leader, serving as President and CEO of South Bend Warehousing & Distribution Corporation since 1983. He is also President of M. and S. Management Company, Inc. and Ivy Tower Corporation. In addition he is Principal Broker and Realtor of Marcus Realty and has served as a business consultant specializing in labor relations.

He has been a member of the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Board for ten years, serves as a Board Chair, and is also a member of the Center’s Board of Trustees. He has also been a Board Member of the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph County since 1997 and served as its President for two years. He has also been a past member of the Boards of Directors of the Cancer Society of St. Joseph County, the Voluntary Action Center of South Bend, and the United Health Services of South Bend and has also been active with the Logan Foundation.

He received a “Man of the Year” award from the South Bend Transportation Club in 1998 and a “Boss of the Year” award from the American Business Women’s Association in both 1979 and 1988.

Mr. Marcus received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and a Master of Science in Industrial Administration, both from Purdue University. He and his wife, Sara, have been married for 45 years and reside in Granger. They have three children.
